Ep. 65 | Coronavirus discussion with Dr. Nicholas Pennings and Dr. Dennis Bazemore

Guest: Dr. Nicholas Pennings, chair of family medicine for the School of Osteopathic Medicine and director of the Campbell University Health Center; and Dr. Dennis Bazemore, vice president of student life, discuss the COVID-19 coronavirus and Campbell's response. The discussion touches on the science behind the virus and the work being done by the Health Center and the University to keep students and faculty safe. Campbell University has suspended all on-campus, in-person classes across all campuses through April 5.

Guest: Wiggins Memorial Library Dean Alexia Riggs and Librarian Steve Bahnaman join us to share their fundraising efforts to renovate the University Room on the second floor of the library for use as a sort-of museum and celebration of Campbell University history. They also talk about the time capsule that will be buried in front of the new student union on April 22 (to be opened in 50 years) and the upcoming Academic Symposium.

Guest: Alumna Bethany Anne Lind ('04) has built her acting career on several supporting roles in big time television shows — from The Walking Dead, Turn and Stranger Things to more recently Ozark, Reprisal and Doom Patrol. Currently she's promoting her first leading role in the critically acclaimed indie film Blood On Her Name, which hits the public on Feb. 28. Lind talked to Rhymes With Orange this week to talk about her new film, the "darker" roles she's accepted in recent years and what's on the horizon for this talented actress.

Guest: In late February 2019, guests from Residence Life and Housing introduced us to a new initiative at Campbell called the Residential Learning Communities plan — an idea that groups students together on the same residence hall floor based on common majors, career goals and other personal interests. Nearly a year later, Assistant Director of Residence Life Jenna Jeslis is on the podcast to tell us about the program’s success this past fall semester. Two students who currently live in RLCs, Cody Brown and Carah Watson, back up the benefits of living with students who share similar course loads and can push them academically.

Guests: Junior biology major Suchi Murugu is joined by biology professor Dr. John Bartlett to talk about Murugu's Doula Birth Beginnings Certification non-profit organization and upcoming doula training event in January. Murugu's goal with the event is to train students and faculty to earn doula certification to assist women in the birth process.
